Merfolk of Lake Dagat (ACTIVE ADVENTURE)

Session 1

December 4, 2008

The group gathered together in Lasang. They spoke with Groebeld, and received some documents to bring to Henmamin in Dagat. Since all the inns were at capacity, they went to Thonerus' parents' house, just outside of town, to spend the night. While they were sleeping in the barn, skeletons attacked the farmhouse. Thonerus' father was injured, but the party managed to defeat the undead abominations handily.

They rested there for a day, then went to Dagat the next day. It was an uneventful trip.

In Dagat, they gave the documents to Henmamin, who paid them a reward. They also got a map for a local Datu (#10) from him, and were encouraged to get some more experience. They heard a rumor about some trouble in mermaid cove, with the fishermen, so they headed up there to find out. There they spoke briefly with Jauko Kroul, who was in a fishing boat, and to some mer-folk in the water. The problem with the fishermen and the mer-folk seemed to be because the fishermen couldn't fish in their normal area, due to the presence of some monster there.

So the party headed back to Dagat. The next day, they took the boat out to the normal fishing grounds to try and determine what the problem there was. They briefly fought, and defeated, what turned out to be a Kuo Toa. They also met two other Kuo Toa, but found that they could not communicate with them. They did determine that they were speaking Undercommon, however, and that another fisherman knew that language.

The next day they came back, and spoke with the Kuo Toa "boss". He told them that there was a sizable population of Kuo Toa in the lake, searching for a religious artifact of some sort, a golden disk that had been lost long ago in a nearby ruined temple. If they had the disk, they would leave the lake permanently.

Session 2

December 11, 2008

  • Quimathon Nemetrance (CG M Silvanesti Elf Wizard 2) played by James

The group met at the Tripod Inn in Dagat, and decided to take the map to Datu 10 they had received from Henmamin, and check it out. The went out there and discovered some ruins, along with three sailsnakes. The druids managed to calm the animals, and Tlin actually became friendly with one of them. There was a hole, with a stream of water pouring into it. They climbed down, and found some chambers underground. They fought a gelatinous cube, which actually engulfed two of the party before it was destroyed. Then they found and liberated some lizardfolk who had been trapped in here by the cube, gaining some treasure out of gratitude.

Eventually they found their way down into the lower parts of this area, where they fought an enormous giant crocodile! One bite from this beast would have been death for any of the group, but it must have been having a bad time of it, because it didn't manage to even hurt anyone, before the party killed it off. Emeldir Gloordhel dealt it the final blow. They found a golden rod in a nearby room.

They came back to town, divvied up the treasure, and regrouped. After another visit with Henmamin, they decided to go across the lake and investigate some caves and a tower. They went to the tower first, but found that it had been previously cleaned out (there were orcs living in it) by Kuo-Toa, looking for their religious relic. From the top of the tower, they were able to see something deeper in the forest, and they headed in that direction.

They found a rather touchy hedge, in an area of magical mist. After a search, they located an apparent entrance to this area, and stepped into a maze of corridors. Shortly thereafter, they encountered what appeared to be a teleportation pad leading to another part of the maze.

Session 3

January 8, 2009

After getting turned around a bit inside the hedge maze, the party found a long-deceased halfling. On his person was half of a map, showing someone's sketches of this very hedge maze! They found that they could jump over a corner of the oddly-shaped building, and found their way to a set of stairs. The building was a pyramid, and they ascended to the top. Once there, they noticed an area of the hedge maze that looked interesting, so they went back and checked it out, finding the remains of two other adventurers, and the other half of the map.

Back at the top, they moved a stone, and found another teleportation pad under it. This led them to a series of chambers in some dark, and very windy, area. They fought and defeated a bunch of flying abominations called Windrazors. They located a secret door, which led to another teleportation portal, which brought them to a large earthy cavern, inhabited by an earth elemental. They defeated it, and moved to another area, which was burning with heat. A river of lava houses two Salamanders, who demanded payment in gold for safety crossing the lava flow. The group went back out of the pyramid, and brought in some small tree trunks, and used these to construct a bridge across the lava. Leaving the bridge in place, the party went on to another teleportation pad, which led to another plane, featuring a couple of small islands in a vast ocean.

Session 4

January 22, 2009

The group looked around in wonder, at the nice, tropical day they had found, deep underground. They quickly noticed a large killer whale swimming back and forth. They tried various things to get rid of the whale, such as baiting it with food, but were not successful. Finally they started attacking it. Before it could retaliate, Quim managed to freeze up it's blowhole with a ray of frost. The whale, injured, swam off at this point. They swam across the channel, and found a large golden disk, and another teleport pad that brought them out of this mysterious plane.

Back in civilization, they spoke with the fishers guildmaster, and received passage on a fishing boat over to the Blue Roper fishing grounds, where they met with some Kuo Toa. Upon giving them the golden disk, they received thanks (though surly), and three bags of pearls. The Kuo Toa promised to leave the lake immediately. Returning to town, they received another reward for allowing the fishermen to get back to their normal grounds.

The group decided to head over to the other side of the lake again, to investigate a cave that the Kuo Toa had mentioned. They climbed down from the top of the cliffs, and found their way into a secret chamber in the back.

The party started out in Lasang, a town on the Insular Road. They were directed to Dagat. When they got to Dagat, they took the ferry across the Dagat River, and entered town. They saw a sign directing them to Tem's Discount Magic, and they followed the road to the store. There they met Tem, who wanted the party to go down into some dungeons under the town, and retrieve a Rod of Withering. The party was feeling under-equipped, and asked if Tem could equip them with some gear first. Tem got annoyed, and activated a magic rug, teleporting the group down into the dungeon directly below. They managed to knock some stuff off the shelves while being sucked in, including an ever-burning torch. They got dumped into a dungeon far underground...

  • Martyn al'Tyr (Male human paladin) played by Nate
  • Zedeikus Orilander (Male human wizard) played by Jake

The group did a bit of exploration to the east, and found some rooms. They killed a Troglodyte zombie, and found some doors with many iron spikes, and a warning in goblin. There was another room they entered, and were attacked by a group of goblins. While quite wounded, they did manage to prevail. They found a tunnel leading out of the underground complex, called the Underdagat, to the east. It came up in the swamp.

After emerging from the Underdagat, Ronald and Amber went to the officer of the watch, and reported that Tem was doing bad things. Zedeikus met up with Mnm, and Mnm gave him a spellbook he had found earlier. Zedeikus studied it. Martyn went to the store.

The party went into the swamp to find him, but were ambushed by six goblins and a bugbear. They were badly wounded but prevailed. The found the lost boy, and returned with him. They met with Henmamin, who gave them a reward, and talked with him about going to help fight the undead. He instead directed them towards Elanna's Exotic Eats and the problem with goblins there. They found a drain, and disassembled some floor, to pass down into the underdagat. They killed a fetid fungus, a monitor lizard, and a ragamuffin. From the fungus, they found a scepter worth 1500 GP.
