Datu 1: The Iron Cellar (COMPLETED ADVENTURE)

  • DM: Eric
  • Tim played a rogue. What was his name?
  • Chaaarlie, male human monk, played by Joe
  • Rukiya Namuste, human male ranger, played by Jon
  • Mike played... I forget. Who?

The individual characters had gathered at Lasang, in the Kingdom of Karn, on the island of Bunawan, along with a large group of other adventurers. Many were hoping to join the ranks of soldiers, or to help in their own small way, with the recent problems facing the land. Alas, according to Groebeld, the militia was completely full, even out of supplies. The next morning, Groebeld sent them off up the river Dagat to the southeast, mentioning that he had received reports of skeletons hassling villagers, and that the group should head upstream at the nearest tributary, a creek called Paspas.

The four found the creek, and headed upstream on a little trail for about five miles, until they came to a large boulder. On the other side of the boulder, they were ambushed by goblins, who gave them quite a scare at first, by nearly killing their rogue. They eventually dispatched them, however, and crossed the stream, finding a little glittering treasure in the waters along the way.

Up on the bank on the other side they met a band of skeletons, and, taking them by surprise, dispatched them without trouble. But right next to them was a large, mysterious white stone, with a huge rusted iron hatch on top of it. A search around the perimeter disclosed an animal den of some sort underneath it. Entering into it, they killed some monstrous centipedes. They broke through a loose wall, and entered an ancient abandoned chamber underneath the stone. High above, in the ceiling, was the bottom of the iron hatch. There were more centipedes here, and some treasure.

In the far corner they encountered a hole in the ground, from which blue light wavered; it turned out to be a waterway, connected to Paspas creek. And in the water, guarding a large pile of gold, was a mermaid named Beyna. She told a tale of woe, of how the fishermen of Dagat had been causing problems for her village, out in lake Dagat. She extracted a pledge from the party to go and do something about it, in return for half of her pile of gold coins.

Datu 7: Marlgronnen's Crypt (COMPLETED ADVENTURE)

Session 1
  • Korrim Thynnblaed (male human swashbuckler 1) played by Gavin
  • Fash Keth (male whisper gnome, rogue 1) played by James
  • Kendra Vadania (female elf druid 1) played by Brinn
  • Sivad Clox (male elf cleric 1) played by James
  • Mnm (male halfling ranger 1) played by John J.

These characters were traveling from Lasang to Dagat one day, and happened to join together for the journey. Along the way, they encountered a dying man. Before he died, he mentioned some maps to treasure, and asked that the party go and save his brother, Laetorian, to the south.

There was a trail leading to the south, and the large red boulder by the road, indicated that this location was one of the maps that he had on his person. The party set off to the south. Before long, they entered a dim wood, and surprised a group of four orcs. Kendra the druid cast an entangling spell on them, they they were dispatched primarily with slings. Korrim did take a hard hit from one of orcs, right in the left foot, though he was healed by Sival and Kendra.

Session 2
  • Korrim Thynnblaed (male human swashbuckler 1) played by Gavin
  • Kendra Vadania (female elf druid 1) played by Brinn
  • Mnm (male halfling ranger 1) played by John J.
  • Zedeikus Orilander (male human wizard 1) played by Jake
  • Silvar (CN M half-aquatic, half-drow, druid 1)

The group continued south along the trail, and found another set of orcs to fight. One of them was especially tough. Silvar the druid created a deadly thorn wall, which took care of the problem. The only major injury was Korrim, who got hit in the left foot again, quite badly.

After the adventure, the party went back North, and continued down the road to Dagat, where they restocked up on food and stuff. Zedeikus, in accordance with his vow of poverty, made a healthy donation to Mrs. Rheo's orphanage.

Session 3 (completed!)
  • Korrim Thynnblaed (male human swashbuckler 1) played by Gavin
  • Kendra Vadania (female elf druid 1) played by Brinn
  • Mnm (male halfling ranger 1) played by John J.
  • Martyn al'Tyr (male human paldin 1) played by Nate

The party spent a day in Dagat, getting ready and such. Mnm went up north on a short venture, to look for animals to train. He found a sailsnake, in a Datu that matched one on his map, but he got blasted by venom, and dropped into what turned out to be a deep hole. In the bottom, there were signs of a gelatinous cube. He quickly left the area, and went back to town to get healed. Korrim got his foot healed in a temple of Pelor.

The group then went back to the Datu in the forest, what turned out to be Marlgronnen's crypt. They entered the underground hallway, and negotiated a number of dangerous traps. There was a skeleton whose job it was to reset traps, and they destroyed it. Korrim was leading the way through the dangerous hallway, and he was very fortunate in dodging two traps that he triggered.

They discovered a very holy place, with armed skeletons guarding it. Three fantastic statues were there also, and an amazingly carved sarcophagus. Martyn al'Tyr, a paladin, was able to determine that he needed to offer a prayer in this place. Upon doing so, a voice explained that Marlgronen was a dwarven master sculptor, and that this place was made to protect his remains. After meditating on the sarcophagus, each member of the party gained knowledge in nature, and a star ruby worth 1000 GP.

Theatre of Thieves (COMPLETED ADVENTURE)

Session 1

April 5, 2008

Vaydrum and Dardanus Cynric met with Marindrea Swift and Alena Sablle at the Grand Datat Theatre. They were approached by Ah Bupa, the owner, who asked them to clear out a gang of thieves who were apparently operating from the cellars of the ancient building. Teamed up with two half-orc bouncers, the six of them fought an epic battle with 20 thieves, and a mysterious evil cleric named Wren. They fought and fought, then Wren started using a bunch of potions. One of the potions made a mist, and Wren seemingly escaped in the confusion.

They they explored the cellar a bit, found some loot the thieves had stolen, and turned it in to the authorities. Then they explored to the south, and found some spiders to fight. Killing them, they found some treasure, including a very nice magic wand.

Session 2

April 6, 2008

(same players)

The four got together, bought some new equipment, and went back into the cellar. Unfortunately, it seems that some of the thieves had come back, along with Wren, because they tripped over a reset tripline and triggered an alarm. Out came running a fearsome half-orc barbarian! He was soon joined by another 8 thieves, and Wren in the background. Irien went down in the combat, but was healed by Dardanus. Alena read both of her newly-purchased scrolls of sleep, putting all the thieves to sleep. A fear spell from Dardanus caused the barbarian to run away. He headed to the east, for some reason, and he didn't come back. Wren got away (again).

They gathered up the prisoners, and took them away. Ah Bupa paid them some more money, for eliminating the thieves. But they still need to find how they were getting inside the cellar here.

Session 3

November 15, 2008

(same players)

It was a week later, and the same group got together and talked about resuming their adventures. They found out that there was a man at the town triangle who had a reward of 250 gold, for the ruby ring his favorite nephew had been carrying when he'd disappeared while doing some task in the cellar. They decided to go talk to Ah Bupa, and see if they should explore the rest of the cellar. She said yes, so they went back inside. After some exploration, they found a barricaded area, which they didn't enter. They also found stairs leading down to a third level. At the bottom of the stairs, they made some noise, and an enormous skeletal dragon came charging up the corridor at them! They barely managed to escape back up the stairs. They went and told Ah Bupa what they had found, and she counseled them to stay away from the third level, but to finish cleaning out the second.

Session 4

January 11, 2009

Irien was not available for this adventure, so the party continued without her.

They went back down in the cellars of the Grand Dagat Theatre, and explored what appeared to be an old wine cellar. The walls were very unstable, and they took considerable damage just from them falling down all the time. They found some remains in this dusty, ruined area, with a magical chain shirt, some gold, and things like that. Some of these were in forgotten areas behind the walls. They also found a dangerous ooze creature, which they managed to kill without too much difficulty.

There is still a room at the south of this area that they haven't yet explored, and another barricaded area. They also haven't confirmed how the thieves were getting in and out of this cellar. Ah Bupa has offered a reward of 200 GP for completely exploring the area, killing any lurking menaces, and discovering the other entrance or entrances.

Session 5 (completed!)

January 19, 2009

Returning to the theatre, they spoke with Ah Bupa, then went back into the cellar. They found a lair of Gricks, and killed all three of them, finding some treasure in the process. They took down a barricade, and entered an old chamber. There were five corpses in it, on which they found some more treasure, including a signet ring, for which there was a reward. Then they forced open a stuck door at the back of the room, and went into another area, whereupon they were attacked by fully twenty zombies, and a necrosis carnex. It was a long, grueling battle, which exhausted most of their resources, potions, spells, undead turnings, etc, but they did eventually prevail. The necrosis kept healing the zombies, but once they took that down, the battle went quickly. They found a scroll case among some coffins in that room.

Back to the surface, they constructed a detailed map for Ah Bupa, showing where the various tunnels led, and claimed a reward for clearing the dungeon (except for the skeletal dragon on the third level). They returned the signet ring to the man who was looking for it, and claimed a reward for that also. It was a good day.
